The name originates from the French mathematician Pierre de Fermat (1601-1665) who had a broad influence on number theory, the underpinnings of Calculus, and is best known for "Fermat's Last Theorem" which remained unsolved for over 300 years. Fermat also had a big impact on gaming theory and probability, and sharp minds following in his footsteps can find practical utility in a variety of casino games and puzzles developed and influenced by these laws of mathematics.
Puzzles: I still design puzzles, too, and some people produce them. On occasion you can see a couple of them at Eric Fuller's site, Cubic Dissection, although he tends to make very few at a time, so might be sold out of them at any given time. Another puzzle-craftsman is Bernard Schweitzer, in Germany, at Puzzlewood. He has quite a wide selection of puzzles available from many designers.
